Join nationally recognized watercolorist Carl Purcell for three inspiring days of plein air painting in one of the most stunning landscapes in the American Southwest. The workshop is designed for artists of all skill levels who want to improve their ability to see, simplify, and capture the essence of nature in watercolor.
Lodging
I would encourage you to stay with us at the Cliffrose Lodge as they have offered workshop participants a very special reduced rate for rooms. The lodge offers great painting vistas onsite. Call 435-772-3234 and tell them you are part of the Carl Purcell workshop. If there is any question have them contact “Z” who is in charge of groups and events.
Workshop Overview:
Each day begins with indoor instruction and live demonstrations at 9:00 a.m., focusing on value, composition, and expressive brushwork. Then we’ll head into Zion National Park to paint on location, using your sketchbook and paints to respond to the incredible environment around us. For those who prefer to stay nearby, the lodge itself offers sweeping views of canyon cliffs and the Virgin River—perfect for painting in comfort. The day wraps up with a group critique and Q&A session back at the conference room at 5:00 p.m.
A welcome reception on Thursday evening, November 6th, will include light refreshments and a special painting demonstration by Carl to kick off the workshop.
