I take a sketchbook with me to the doctor's office anticipating a wait. I started a drawing by making a small rectangle, then another and another. Soon I had a cluster of shapes that began to look like a farm. In the second waiting room I completed the drawing and later did a painting from it. I called it encroachment, because it reminded me of the gradual displacement of farms by city buildings and warehouses.
